John W. Campbell, 85, of Independence passed away peacefully at his home on June 1, 2006. Services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Interment in Ebenezer Church Cemetery in Levasy. The family will greet friends before the service starting at 10:00 am. The family suggest contributions to American Cancer Society or Ebenezer United Church of Christ. John was born to Elbert and Nellie (Harra) Campbell on October 7, 1920 in Buckner Missouri. He was a proud veteran of Army Air Corp, serving in WWII as a SSGT, and waist gunner, earning a Purple Heart, and Oak Leaf Cluster to Air medal. Upon his return, he met and married the love of his life, Mabel Louise. They shared 62 years together, and raised 3 children. John retired after 37 years from the Amoco plant in Sugar Creek. He enjoyed his horses, woodworking, and gardening, but his greatest passion was that of his family. John was a volunteer for many years with 4-H Club, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. "Everyday is a good day�, was his motto. While he always felt he was a lucky man, his family will be forever blessed with the love, strength, and courage that was John. Survivors include his wife, Mabel of the home, daughters Sandra and husband Gary Beatty, Brenda Campbell, all of Indep., Rebecca Campbell of Lee�s Summit; 2 grandsons, Kirk and wife Miranda of Blue Springs, Kyle and wife Amy of Minn. MN; and 3 great grandchildren.
