Mabel L. Campbell (Ripperger)

April 14, 1925 — December 3, 2021

Mabel Louise Ripperger Campbell
Born 04 14 1925 Levasy, Missouri
Passed 12 03 2021 Independence, Missouri
96 ½ years young
Mabel was born in Levasy, Missouri on a family farm on Ripperger Road where hard work was a way of life. Because her father passed away early in her life, she and her sisters formed an unbreakable bond which remained throughout their lives. As the three sisters relied on their mother’s guidance they were able to keep the farm functioning which provided a living for them. The three girls were 12, 10, and 8 respectively when they lost their father following WWI so it was necessary for them to assume responsibility early in their young lives. Mabel received her Driver’s License at the age of 12 because she needed to provide transportation for her family. Mabel and her sisters attended Cogswell Grade School and Levasy High School.
Mabel was very fortunate to have gone to Business School following high school graduation which was instrumental in securing a position at The Bank of Independence where she thoroughly enjoyed working.
In 1944 Mabel married John William Campbell following WWII and 4 years later they started their family and raised a total of 3 daughters at 1401 East Mechanic in Independence. Mabel happily became a stay at home full time mother who busied herself cooking, cleaning, sewing, playing the piano for Jr. Choir, working in PTA, leading 4-H Club cooking and sewing classes, and socializing with her kind neighbors. She and her husband, John, who was employed by The Standard Oil Company in Sugar Creek, Missouri were married 62 years. Together they managed to go to Sunday School and Church with their daughters, provided music lessons for all 3 girls, sent them to 4 years of college, and made sure the work ethic was firmly planted in each child. They had a tremendous love for their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
For the last 7 years of her life she lived with her youngest daughter, Rebecca Campbell, in Independence, Missouri where she thoroughly enjoyed riding several hours a day in her van. Mabel was known for her beautiful smile and pleasant disposition. Her faith in God guided her throughout her life. The day before she passed, she was singing the dear old hymn “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder”.
