Laura E. Cannady Jones, 92 of Kansas City, MO passed away, Friday, January 11, 2013 at Timberlake Care Center in Kansas City, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 611 North Liberty Street, Independence, MO 64050 with burial to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., followed by family visitation until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Laura was born November 6, 1920 in Kansas City, MO to George and Mary (Lee) Gast and has been a lifelong area resident. She had worked for over 30 years as a warehouse worker for H.J. Hodes Supply Company until her retirement in 1993. She enjoyed spending time with family especially her grandchildren. She is survived by; 2 sons, Leroy Cannady and wife Rozinia of Kansas City, MO and Jerry Cannady and wife Janice of Hermitage, MO; 2 daughters, Kathy Hobbs and husband Melvin of Peculiar, MO and Mary Elgin of Belton, MO; 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 20 great great grandchildren and 14 great great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Jess Cannady in 1954; her 2nd husband, Edsel Leon Jones in 1971; 2 sons, Larry Cannady and Jesse Cannady in 2004 and a granddaughter, Kelly Hobbs in 2004. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Kansas City Hospice for the care they gave Laura in her final days.
