Charles Richard “Dick” Cargyle, 84, of Independence, MO, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021. A memorial visitation will take place from 9:00-10:00 a.m. with a service following at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St.; Independence, MO 64055. Interment will be private.
Dick was born October 6, 1936 in the Dutch West Indies, now known as the island of Aruba. He graduated from William Chrisman in 1955. In 1957 he married his first love, Rita Head, and from their union came two children.
Dick married his beloved Carolyn Dalton in 1977. From their marriage, they welcomed a daughter. He was raised in the RLDS church and became a member of the priesthood. Dick was a plumber by trade and a member of Union Local #8 for over 60 years. He went on to work at Lake City Powerhouse, retiring in 1999. He also owned and operated Hole in the Ball pro shop inside of Strike N Spare Bowl for many years. He was a dedicated bowler himself, an avid Chiefs fan and a craftsman woodworker and candlemaker. Every year for 36 years, Dick and Carolyn would make custom Christmas ornaments for their family. They both also enjoyed monthly breakfasts with the William Chrisman class of ’55.
Dick was adored by his family and respected by his friends. He will be missed by all. Dick is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Mark Richard Cargyle; and his brother, Glen Cargyle. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carolyn; his daughters, Susan (Michael) Borer of Parkville, MO and Michele (John) LaBarca of Kansas City, MO; daughter-in-law, Barbara Cargyle of Canton, OH; grandchildren, Jessica Laber, Isaac Borer, Isaiah (Kelsey) Borer, Danielle (Blake) Sparks, Shaina Borer, Joseph (Corrie) Cargyle, Mark Anthony Cargyle, Annemarie LaBarca, and Sophia LaBarca; great-grandchildren, Alexia Melander, Judah Borer, Jacob Cargyle, Abbygail Cargyle, Makenna Borer, and Owen Borer; as well as, his four-legged, faithful companion, Rosie.
