Though she grew up traveling beside the Missouri River, she lived most of her life in the Independence area. As a teacher at Bryant Elementary School, she shaped the minds of many; and, as a volunteer of 20 years at Independence Regional Hospital, she gave comfort to those in need. She was the perfect companion for her husband, a loving mother, and a grandmother who always had a hug ready for her grandsons. Always the teacher, always a friend, she touched the lives of everyone lucky enough to know her. Her soul was beautiful, and as deep as the Missouri. With a smile that could stretch from shore to shore, her laughter and love will forever echo in our hearts. Mrs. Carlisle is survived by her husband of 64 years, Alfred C. Carlisle of Independence; two sons and their wives, Dr. Lynn D. and Kirsten Carlisle of Fort Collins, Colorado and Richard G. and Candace Carlisle of Lees Summit, Missouri; a sister Edna Burl Beissenherz of Lexington, Missouri, two grandsons, Jim and Jack Carlisle; and by many nieces, nephews and friends.
