Carmonell "Nellie" Winkler

Carmonell “Nellie” Winkler, 94 of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at the Village of Jackson Creek.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 21, 2023 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052 with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.  The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Monday at the chapel.  Nellie was born April 19, 1929 in Carbon Hill, AL to John and Vivian (Burt) Green and has been a longtime area resident.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed playing radio contests, country and western music and spending time with family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was married to Roy Winkler for many years until his passing in 2015.  Survivors include: 2 sons, Michael Winkler and wife Linnette of Kansas City, MO and Dennis Winkler and wife Linda of Independence, MO; 4 siblings, Bill Green of North Kansas City, MO, Joann Hynds of Independence, MO, Dottie Heady of Atlanta, GA and Boots Green of Huntington Beach, CA; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 5 siblings.
