Jeanette Carney, 88, of Independence, MO, passed away December 31, 2020 in Round Rock, TX. Jeanette was born September 23, 1932, in Lawrence County, MO, the daughter of James and Letha (Garton) Hankins. She was a resident of Independence, MO since 1964. She worked as a Switchboard Operator and Supervisor at AT&T in Kansas City and later as a Switchboard Operator at First National Bank until she retired. She loved cooking, watching the Kansas City Royals, and spending time with her beloved dog, Bentley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur S. Carney, and siblings Dorothy E. Johnson, E. Mae Johnson, James William Hankins, John Winfred Hankins, Bonnie Renard and two infant sisters Shirley Anne Hankins and Betty Jane Hankins. Survivors include her daughter, Cindy York (Michael) of Lee's Summit, MO; a granddaughter Crystal Riggs (Brent) of Austin, TX, and two great-grandchildren Charlotte and Tristan Riggs of Austin, TX. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St S, Independence, MO 64055, followed by a graveside service at 4:00 p.m., Saturday at Dunkle Cemetery, Everton, MO. All services will be held under current Covid-19 restrictions of 50 people maximum and masks will be required.
