James “Jim” R. Carpenter, 84 of Independence, MO passed away with his loving family by his side. A Memorial visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Manor in the chapel at 10AM Saturday, February 18, 2017, for family. Jim was born on December 9, 1932 in Milford, KS to Irving and Myrtle (Budden) Carpenter. He graduated from Wakefield, KS high school. After high school, Jim joined the Army where he proudly served his country. In November of 1951, Jim married the love of his life, Ivy Jane (Gordon). Upon completion of his military service, Jim moved to the Independence area. He was employed with Jack Cooper Transport for over 41 years and was a member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church. In his spare time Jim enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking. He spent the last 10 years dedicated to the care of his wife. Survivors include; his wife of 65 years Jane; son Steven Carpenter and his wife Robin, granddaughters Savannah and Caroline of Tampa, Fl. Sister Betty Fasse (Gail), Brothers Denny Carpenter (Betty) and Gary Carpenter (Judy). Loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews and many friends. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Manor Associate Assistant Program, St. Cyril’s Catholic Church or The Cancer Society.
