Priscilla "Pat" Vera Carrick

January 9, 1931 — April 8, 2022

At 6:18 a.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022, Priscilla "Pat" Carrick passed away peacefully, forever beloved by her companion, best friend and husband of nearly 73 years, Dale E. Carrick. Priscilla Vera (Markham) Carrick was born on January 9, 1931 to Murtyn and Vera Markham in Vestaburg, Michigan. She married Dale Carrick on June 12, 1949. Pat, as she was affectionately called, worked in the home raising their five children and four adopted children. Dale and Pat were foster parents for many years and had many children in their home. Pat also played the piano and directed the church choir in Michigan. She made sure that all of her children took piano lessons.

The family moved to Independence, Missouri in 1977. She loved being a mom and with Dale became a host family to a foreign exchange student from Mexico. As a lifelong student, she obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Special Education, at Central Missouri State University in 1991. She taught in private schools and was a tireless resource to the home-schooling community. Pat and Dale were lifelong members of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Pat and Dale were youth leaders for Zion’s League and she was also Women’s leader at many different times in her life in both Michigan and Missouri. In the past several decades, they were active in the Restoration Branches, most recently attending Church of Jesus Christ, Children of God.

From an early age, Pat excelled in the home, raising a large family, preparing meals for church events, and always having time to help those in need. Until her passing, Pat remained very active with Dale in the kitchen baking bread, food preparation, and canning projects. Pat's greatest passion was her church, her faith, and preparing for the return of Jesus. She loved children and was always involved in various learning and music activities for children centered on her faith. Talk of Zion and Zionic principles were always on her lips.

As an avid writer, she wrote books, educational curriculum, church school and vacation Bible school materials, and with her perfect cursive handwriting, was writing until the very end of her time. On the day of her passing, she lamented that she had so much to do in preparation for a class she was teaching on the book of Isaiah. Pat was unapologetic about her faith and was happy to discuss, debate, and advocate for her view of scripture. She loved corresponding with friends and family and always had time to share her testimony.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Murtyn and Vera Markham, her brother, Waldo Markham, her sisters, Joanna Markham and Ramona Wager, her daughter-in-law Rebecca Carrick(Mark), granddaughter-in-law Amy Johnson(Michael), and great granddaughter, Violet Carrick. Pat is survived by her husband, Dale E. Carrick, her children, Vicki D.VanNoy, Susan L. McConnell (Bob), David L. Carrick (Teresa), Cathy J. Vreeland (Glenn), Mark E. Carrick (Beth), Jonathon B. Carrick, Benjamin R. Carrick, Sarah J. Floyd (Louis), and Teresa L. Carrick Commander, thirty grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. Pat is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Nancy Fox(Phil), Nina Woodrow, Karen(Kay)Carrick, and brother-in-law Ron Carrick(Louise), a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins. Pat touched countless lives in her ninety-one years and will be greatly missed by all.
