Melvin Caruthers, 75, Buckner, MO passed away Nov. 12, 2018. Services will be 2 pm, Saturday, Nov. 17 at Speaks Buckner Chapel, 300 Adams, Buckner MO 64016; interment at Buckner Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 pm, before the service at the chapel.
Melvin was born August 6, 1943 in Wellsville, KS to Russell and Marie (Hess) Caruthers. He graduated from Wellsville High School before moving to the Kansas City area. He married his wife, Neita, in 1964 and the pair had two sons. Melvin worked at the Lake City Ammunition plant for over 40 years in waste management. In his retirement, Melvin enjoyed fishing, hunting-“anything that moved”, trapping, gardening, and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by both parents; a brother, Harold Caruthers; and sister-in-law, Karen Caruthers. He is survived by his wife, Neita of the home; sons Jeff (Tami) Caruthers, of Buckner, MO and Mark (Sherry) Caruthers, of Cedar Hill, MO; two brothers Marvin (Joyce) Caruthers and Donald (Kay) Caruthers both of Wellsville, KS; a sister Barbara (Bob) Barnhill of Wellsville, KS; sister-in-law Donna (Ben) Winemiller of Buckner, MO; brother-in-law Charlie (Sandy) Sylva, also of Wellsville, KS; five grandchildren, Cole (Mandy) Caruthers, of Lathrop, MO, Cody (Bailee Crain) Caruthers, of Independence, Makayla Caruthers, Sydney Caruthers, and Ty Caruthers, of Cedar Hill, MO; and two great-grandchildren, Tucker Henry and Ridge Caruthers, of Lathrop, MO.
