Joyce Ilene Carver, 89, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at University Health Lakewood Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 10, 1934. She grew up primarily in Des Moines, Iowa and Independence, Missouri, graduating in 1951 from William Chrisman High School in Independence. She loved telling stories of her childhood, including seeing President Harry Truman walking the neighborhood of her youth.

Joyce married Clifford Henry Carver in 1951 and had four children. Joyce’s life was spent loving and caring for her family, friends and the children of her church communities, East Alton, Farview, Beacon Heights and Buckner Restoration. She was an incredible teacher, creating original puppet plays, flannel graph presentations, games, stories and poems for church camps, Vacation Bible Schools and Sunday School. She also supported her husband Cliff in his photography business, particularly when he was photographing in school settings.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents (William and Margaret Lidke), her sister (Gwendolyn Simmons) and her husband (Clifford) of fifty-five years. She is survived by her four children Michael (Patricia), Teri, Delaine (Darryl), Randall and by eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held 2pm Saturday, June 17 at Buckner Restoration Branch, 2607 N Twyman Rd, Independence, MO 64058.
