Vernon L. "Bill" Case of Independence, Missouri moved to his Heavenly home on June 10, 2017. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am., Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Immanuel Baptist Church 112 W 23rd St., Independence, Missouri 64055. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery, Blue Springs, Missouri. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Friday, June 16, 2017 at the church. Bill was born July 11, 1930 to Albert and Hattie Case of Levasy, Missouri. He married Winifred (King) of Independence, Missouri on July 20, 1951. They have three daughters Karen, Kendra, and Kyla Case. They have two grandchildren, Shane (Kyla) Wapskineh, Jessica (Shane) Sidebottom, a step-granddaughter Christy (Austin) Ledford, and five great-grandchildren Layla, Ella, Calla (Wapskineh), Wyatt, Reed (Sidebottom), and two step-great-grandchildren Asher, Addison (Ledford). Bill is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and grandson Casey (Wapskineh). Bill was a graduate of Manuel Technical High School in Kansas City, Missouri, attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri, received his B.A. from William Jewel College in Liberty, Missouri, attended Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and then later received his M.BA from UMKC. He was Ordained in 1949 and served as Pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Fayette, Missouri before going to Seminary in Kentucky. Bill worked as Manager of Data Processing at First National Bank of Independence and as a programmer for Waddell & Reed. He then went on to work 35 years for the Metropolitan Community Colleges in Kansas City, Missouri teaching data processing and computer programming courses. During his tenure at MCC he created the Institute for Computer Professionals with the foresight to develop computer professionals in the Kansas City area on current technologies at the time. His passion for teaching and seeing his students succeed gave him great pleasure. Bill loved his wife Winnie of more than 65 years. He loved his children, grandchildren and great¬grandchildren. His daily prayer was thanking God for loving him, providing for all his needs, and for the love our family shares. Bill was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Independence, Missouri where he has faithfully served the church since 1952. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the ministries of the church.
