Catherine Liebach Anthony was born in Norman, MO on May 28, 1921 and resided in Independence, MO from 1959 until her death on February 22, 2025 at 103. Family visitation will be from 11am-12:40pm. There will be a rosary recited at 12:40pm-1pm and funeral Mass at 1pm, all on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Nativity of Mary Parish, Independence, MO followed by Internment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Raytown, MO. After the service at Mt. Olivet, we will return to Nativity of Mary for a luncheon. She cared for the Body Mind and Spirit obviously in living to be 103, her Education at Avila, KU and Catholic University culminating with a Masters and her spirit in answering her God’s call to love, serve and heal by… Service as a nurse in the healing ministry over her lifetime, first as in the US Navy as an Ensign and Lt JR Grade and Supervisor in WWII serving wounded from the Pacific then at the Independence Sanatorium and St. Joseph Hospital. She ministered in almost every specialty in her day. Service to students as an instructor and department chair of nursing/Mental Health at Graceland University. She taught the material and through her example of empathy. She retired in 1991. Service as a proud Veteran of the Greatest Generation to other veterans a member of the American Legion for 35 years. Tirey J. Ford Post 21, active and Charter member of the Heartland Women Veterans America Legion Post 1107, since 5 December 2012, held the position of Sergeant-at Arms for many years until July 2023. She was also a member for Tirey J. Ford Legion Auxiliary Unit 21 for 25 years, The Four and Forty Foundation Salon 94 and 5th District American Legion Auxiliary as Chairman for Women Veterans. Just last year she reveled in being in the Independence Veterans Day Parade chauffeured in a Corvette. Service to Nativity of Mary Parish, Independence serving as a Eucharistic Minister for 15 years to its parishioners, charity and example of growing old gracefully. Service to her precious family and Independence community. Her presence, smile, wisdom and love inspired all she met. Truly, she embodied St. Irenaeus quote, “The Glory of God is the human person fully alive”. She on earth and now in heaven. We thank for her service to God, country, US Navy, patients, family and friends. Her ship has sailed to heaven greeted there by her family, but she leaves us in eternal embrace to Carry On!
