Helen Chamblin

Helen Nadine Chamblin, 91, passed away peacefully at John Knox Village on September 24, 2013. She was born in Braymer, Missouri on October 10, 1921 to Lester and Nola Hays who predeceased her.
Helen was united in marriage to L. Graham Chamblin on May 31, 1942 and the couple was married for 63 years until Graham’s passing on September 7, 2005. Helen and Graham enjoyed their life at Lake Lotawana for over 50 years where Helen was active in community, school, and church activities.
She was known for her smile, laughter, and welcoming manner to friends and strangers alike. She was a dedicated homemaker who selflessly engaged in her husband’s and children’s activities and served as a role model to her family continuing that tradition of involvement in her grandchildren’s lives. Known for providing a warm, loving, nurturing home, son Tim says, “She was my biggest fan. She was quiet, bright, dependable, and always there for you.” A faithful wife, mother, and grandmother were the roles Helen found most important and satisfying.
Her membership in Lake Lotawana Community Methodist Church began in 1958 and continued until her death. She also was a member of Missouri Yacht Club at Lake Lotawana and Lake Lotawana Community Club. She served as Den Mother for Tim’s Cub Scout Troop. And she enjoyed flying with Graham in his plane and participating in the Confederate Air Force.
Helen was predeceased by a sister, Ruby M. Hays, and four brothers: Leroy, Lester Eugene, Rollin, and Harold.
Survivors include son Tim G. (Melissa) Chamblin; and daughters Jennifer Bone and Stephanie (Sean) Connor. Helen also is survived by seven grandchildren—Amanda Chamblin Smith, Graysen Chamblin, Ashley Bone, Austin Bone, Chris Connor, Kiele Connor, and Jack Connor and one great grandchild, Nathan Graham Chamblin Smith. As dedicated matriarch of the family, her loving presence and always present smile will be missed.
Visitation will be at Speaks Family Legacy Chapel at 18020 E. 39th, Independence, Missouri 64055 on Wednesday, September 25th from 6-8 p.m. A Celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Thursday, September 26th, 2 p.m., at Lake Lotawana Community Methodist Church, 28901 E. Colbern Rd, Lake Lotawana, Missouri 64086 with entombment immediately following at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri 64133.
