Charles E. Chaney, 87, of Independence, MO, passed away Friday, May 6, 2005 at Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2005 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Visitation will be at 1-1:30 in the chapel. Burial will take place in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Charles was born December 4, 1917 in Shell City, MO to Jess and Alma (Bridges) Chaney. He was a veteran of the Navy having served in WWII. Mr. Chaney retired from Southwestern Bell in March of 1980 after 47 years of service. Chuck was a Telephone Pioneer, a member of the Scottish Rite, Ararat Shrine and the Ararat Shrine Radio Club. He was a Mason and was the Past Associate Grand Guardian of the Jobs Daughters for the State of Missouri, Past Associate Guardian of Jobs Daughters Bethel #29 in Independence, MO as well as the Past Master and Secretary of the Independence Lodge #76. In August of 2004 he was awarded his 50 year Masonic membership pin. Mr. Chaney is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia (Hawkins) Chaney of the home; daughter and son-in-law Diane and Wesley Cooper of Springfield, MO; daughter Carol Karle of Columbia, MO; grandchildren Douglas and Melissa Schumpert, Wesleyann Cooper, Jennifer and Eric Metzdorf, Allison and Gary Moore, Chris Weinreich; great-granddaughter Sarah Schumpert; sister Vera Dorsey. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
