Charlie Ray Roberson, a respected veteran, skilled tradesman, and passionate automotive enthusiast, was born on August 10, 1952, in Robersonville, North Carolina. He passed away on January 24, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy that embodies hard work, service, and a love for life.
Charlie's early years were marked by his commitment to serving his country. At the young age of 17, he enlisted in the Army, where he served bravely during the Vietnam War. His dedication and skills were exceptional, as he was assigned to special operations focused on the construction and repair of vital roads and bridges. Charlie endured the hardships of war with resilience, showcasing his strength and determination. After returning from military service, Charlie took his passion for hands-on work and transformed it into a successful career. He learned the trade of plumbing and established his own company, Roberson Plumbing. Throughout his career, he earned a reputation for his craftsmanship and unwavering commitment to quality service. His contributions to the community through his work are remembered fondly by those he served. Beyond his professional pursuits, Charlie had a deep love for cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed working on and tinkering with various vehicles, but his true passion lay in repairing and restoring antique cars. Among his prized possessions was a 1966 Chevelle, which he meticulously restored to "like new" condition—a testament to his skill and dedication. He also found joy in the open road, riding his Harley and experiencing the freedom it brought him; trips to Sturgis held a special place in his heart.
Charlie's passing was preceded by his parents, Charlie and Frances (Brown) Roberson, and his niece, Michelle Baker. His legacy lives on through his best friend and significant other of 17 remarkable years, CJ O'Brien; his siblings, Nancy Baker (Jerry), Mary Ann Powers (Grady), Judy Simpson, and Randy Roberson; his nieces and nephews, Mike Baker, Robin Cabe, Melissa Tebbenkamp, John Paul Cabe, and Crystal Brown; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025 at 11 am at Mount Washington Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.
