Harley Mayo Chilcote, 82 of Independence, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at Independence Regional Health Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2003, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, burial with military honors in Mt Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Mr. Chilcote was born April 14, 1921 in Iola, KS to Clarence and Odessa Chilcote. He served in the Army during World War II, and was awarded three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Harley worked as a Carpenter and was member of Carpenters Union Local #61 for over 50 years. After he retired, Harley spent time working at Gingiss Formal Wear, Batliner Paper Co. and was employed at Price Chopper on Wilson Rd. in Kansas City at the time of his death. Harley was a great husband, father, and friend to all who knew him. He is survived by two daughters, Joan Reynolds, and Kathy Jo Gutierrez, both of Independence, MO; one son Ronnie Chilcote, Circleville, OH; a sister Naomi Taylor, Pine Grove, CA; a longtime friend Halcie "Ginger� Brown, of Independence, MO; eleven grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces and friends.
