Norman Joseph “Joe” Choplin, Sr., 81 of Independence, MO passed away, Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Centerpoint Medical Center.
Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Country Meadows Baptist Church, 4901 S Lee's Summit Rd. Kansas City, MO 64136 with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Joe was born November 17, 1931 in Independence, MO to William Clay and Beulah (Mann) Choplin, Sr. and has been a lifelong area resident graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1950. He attended college at Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, MO and Midwestern Baptist Seminary in North Oak. He owned and operated J&I Enterprises for a number of years.
He enjoyed working and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Country Meadows Baptist Church where he served as deacon emeritus, was in the choir, served as Sunday school teacher and helped on mission trips. At the time of his passing he was a member of Sycamore Hills Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Joe is survived by; his loving wife of 60 years, Icel (Wiebers) Choplin of the home; four children, Betty Woodside and her husband, Charles Anthony “Tony” of Independence, MO, Norman Joseph “Joe” Choplin, Jr. and his wife, Betty of Kansas City, MO, Patti Rude and her husband, Terry of Kansas City, MO and John Choplin and wife, Cindy of Grandview, MO; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Helen Margaret Choplin, 2 brothers, William Choplin, Jr and Keith Choplin and a sister, Elizabeth Choplin.
