Mike Christenson, 59, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017. A visitation will be held from 6-9pm on Tuesday, December 19 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055. A service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, December 20 at Village Heights Community of Christ 1009 N. Farview Dr, Independence, MO, 64056.
Mike was born on June 19, 1958 in Oregon, OH to Fred and Jane (Phillips) Christenson. After high school he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Graceland then returned to school for an Associate’s Degree to pursue a career in the medical field. He has worked for the past 27 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist for the University of Kansas Hospital. While working there he has cared for many people over the years in various capacities. Mike was an Eagle Scout and also has volunteered for many years at SPECTACULAR, a summer camp for high school students all over the nation. This was a passion of his and something he loved dearly. He loved to camp, golf, fish and travel. His family has been able to experience many of the wonders of this Earth through his hobbies and create memories to last a lifetime. Mike also has served as a minister in the Community of Christ, holding the office of Priest.
He was loved and will be missed dearly by his wife of 30 years-Terri Christenson of Independence, MO; daughters Molly and Anna Christenson; siblings Mark and Cyndi Christenson of Independence, MO, Leigh and Ray Carson of Prairie Grove, AR, Tim and Kathy Christenson of Blue Springs, MO; in-laws Ken and Sally Beaird of Keokuk, IA, Doug and Mary Beaird of Burlington, IA, Tammi and Ed Kircher of Keokuk, IA, Micki and Scott Holterhaus of Keokuk, IA; nieces and nephews Amber Murdock (Chris), Ashley Shomin (Matt), Tiffany Ward (Jeffrey), Josh Carson (Haley), Crystal Bayird (James), Megan Clatt (Adam), Kali Kircher, Hilary Beaird, Dilan Beaird, Brooke Wagner (Ryan), Bailie Wallingford (Stacy), Brian Bendorf (Sara), Jeff Bendorf (Tara), and Matt Bendorf (Bethany); and 14 great nieces and nephews.
