Leta M. Christian, 107, Independence, MO passed away Jan. 15, 2015. Services will be 10 am, Monday, Jan. 19 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055; interment at Floral Hills Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 am before the service at the chapel. The family requests contributions to the Maywood Baptist Church, 10505 E Winner Rd, Independence, MO 64052. Leta was born Jan. 7, 1908 in Benton County, MO but lived most of her life in the Kansas City, MO area. She earned a Bachelor degree from Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, MO. She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse for a time. Her husband was an ordained minister who pastored the Leeds Baptist Church and later the Birchwood Baptist Church. As the pastor’s wife she served both congregations in many ways and remained a member of the Birchwood Baptist Church. She was an excellent seamstress who made most of her daughter’s clothes while she was grade school age. She was also a quilter and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Leta was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Leslie G. Christian, four brothers and a sister. She is survived by daughter Bonnie Carroll and husband Rex, Independence, MO; grandsons Greg Carroll and wife Ginger; Steve Carroll and wife Kay, all of Lee’s Summit, MO; Brad Carroll and wife Sherry, Independence, MO; six great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
