September 17, 1936 — February 17, 2025

Kansas City

Clarence Ray Luther, 88 of Kansas City, passed peacefully at home Monday, February 17, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Clarence was born on September 17, 1936, to Halcomb and Brunetta Luther of Blue Springs, Missouri. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carl Dean Luther. He is survived by his sister Shirley Johnson, his wife Melba of 69 years, his son Don and wife Caroline Luther, and his daughter Patricia and husband Matthew Herrick. Clarence was blessed with six grandchildren, Jacqueline, Clinton, Chris, Lance, Donovan, and Kaitlyn. He is also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Payton, Dixie, Hunter, Jrue, Jorgia, Jream, and Jerzey. He also has three step-grandchildren, Aaron, Tad, and Logan as well as five step-great-grandchildren, Madyson, David, Derek, Taylor, and Dylan.

Clarence was raised in rural Blue Springs, Missouri on a family-owned dairy farm where he learned the value of hard work, discipline, and determination; traits that would serve him throughout his life, both in his marriage to his cherished wife Melba of 69 years, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and his distinguished career as a Kansas City police detective and metro squad spokesman. Clarence continued after retirement working security for several metro area companies as well as the Raytown Baptist Church where he and his wife Melba were long-time members of the congregation.

Clarence will be forever remembered as a loving husband, caring father, and wonderful storyteller and role model to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved family unconditionally and provided a lifetime of wisdom, support, and guidance to everyone in his life. He will be missed.

A private family service will be held.
