Dorothy M. Clark

December 22, 1932 — February 26, 2020

Dorothy M. Clark, 87, a lifelong resident of Independence, MO, passed away on February 26, 2020. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, from 4-6pm, with funeral service on Monday, March 2, at 10am, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence. She will be laid to rest in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Dorothy was born on December 22, 1932, to Howard O. Dike and Dora M. Frye Dike. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in the class of 1951. She married Roy Clifford Clark on January 24, 1953, and to this union were born five children. Along with the full-time job of raising a family, she also worked at Children’s Palace, then for Hobby Lobby.

Dorothy was a member of the Community of Christ. She enjoyed bowling at Sterling Bowl for many years. She also loved playing cards, especially penny-ante poker and 31. She would make trips to Branson and Florida when she could, but her favorite vacation of all was her stay in Hawaii. She often traveled across the states to proudly cheer on her grandchildren in their ball games. With her love of games - as a player and as a spectator - one could say she had a competitive side… maybe even go so far as to say “feisty.” However, she simply loved the time she got to spend with her family, and she was a second mom and grandma to many. She was a fantastic cook – her peanut butter fudge, German potato salad, and soup could not be exactly duplicated. She did entrust her recipe and technique for homemade noodles to her son and grandchildren, but she always supervised to ensure it came out just the right way.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Teresa Moeller (husband Mike), Tommy Clark (wife Melanie), Gary Clark (wife Laurie), and Jerry Clark; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Ronnie Dike (wife Muriel); brother-in-law, Art Clark; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Dike and Cindy Dike.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Roy Clark; son, Larry Clark; granddaughter, Kim Peterson; parents, Howard and Dora Dike; brothers, Howard Dike, Jr. and Jerry Dike, Sr.; and sister, Emily Doutt (husband John).
