Dwight Clifford Clark

Dwight Clifford Clark, 84, died Jan. 31, 2016 at his home in Independence, MO with his wife by his side. Services will be 10:30 am, Sat., Feb. 6 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1921 N. Liberty, Independence, MO 64052. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am before the service at church. Committal services will be 2:30 pm, Sat. at Hopewell Cemetery north of Weatherby, MO. Dwight, the son of Clifford N. Clark and Ruby (Vanover) Clark was born Oct. 30, 1931 at his uncle’s farm west of Pattonsburg, MO. He attended school at Dallas Center and graduated from Maysville High School in 1949. He was active in track, basketball and music. He was Class President for two years, Student Body Rep, Student Body President and was the proud recipient of the Swike Cup Award and glad to be part of the “49’ers”. Dwight first attended church at Hopewell Baptist Church, near Maysville and accepted Christ and was baptized in Maysville First Baptist Church. He was ordained to the ministry in 1960 at Gentry Baptist Church, Gentry, MO. He loved to share Jesus with people. Dwight served in the U.S. Army as a personnel management specialist at Camp Chaffee, AR from 1952-54. Following the Army, he attended and graduated from Ouachita Baptist College (University) in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He received a Bachelors Degree in vocal music and a B.A. in Religion. He met his wife, Ann, in college and they graduated together in 1958. He graduated from from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in North Kansas City, MO with his Master of Divinity Degree. Dwight and Ann ministered in many churches through the years serving at churches in Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Michigan. They also served as missionaries in the Bahamas Islands and pastored Calvary Baptist Church in Independence from 1978-88. He retired in 1997 from Warren Woods Baptist Church in Warren, Michigan and retired again in 2009 from Besonia Baptist Church in south Kansas City. Dwight’s love of nature and rural Missouri often showed up in his sermons. He and Ann ministered for sixty years and recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Dwight is survived by his wife Ann Clark, of the home; step-brother Arthur Lee Trussell and wife Joy, Powersite, MO; cousins Ray Forbes and wife Thelma, Cody, WY; Etavon Ochs, Ft. Morgan, CO; brother-in-law Don Salter and wife Rose, Paris, IL; sisters-law Carol Stuart and husband Buster; Nancy Matlock and husband Stueart, all of Little Rock, AR and many nieces and nephews who affectionately called them “Aunt Ann” and “Uncle Dwight” and many friends.
