Juanita E. (Kime) (Phillips) Clayton, Independence, MO passed away after a short illness on July 27, 2007 at Rosewood Skilled Nursing Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Monday, July 30, 2007 at Eastgate Christian Church; cremation. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Juanita was born Nov. 18, 1924 and raised in Rockport, MO on the farm, which had been in her family for three generations. Her family moved to the Kansas City area in 1942. She was married to Robert Phillips in 1943 and had a daughter, Karen. After the divorce, she worked at Vendo Manufacturing. She married Alvin (Bud) Clayton in 1950 who also brought a three-year-old daughter, Cathie. Bud and Juanita owned and operated Clayton’s Service, an automotive repair shop until 1970.
In 1963, they moved to New Lancaster, KS. Juanita enjoyed quilting, square dancing, bridge, fishing and gave sewing lessons. She was active in the New Lancaster Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and active in the choir. She was past President of the New Lancaster EHU. Bud and Juanita were active in the PT Boat organization and traveled to many PT Boat conventions.
The Claytons moved back to the Kansas City area in 1994, where Juanita was a bridge player and a member of the Eastgate Christian Church. She participated in the bell ringers and the choir. Since 2002 she has lived in Independence with her daughter, Cathie and son-in-law, Tom.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Bud; her parents Fern and Kenlen Kime; and brothers Jimmy and Mike. She is survived by her daughters Karen and Jim Tooley, Drexel, MO; Cathie and Tom Jenkins, Independence, MO; two grandchildren Dacia Garbig, Independence, MO; Curtis Tooley, Louisburg, KS; and two great-grandchildren Jacob and Robert Tooley, Louisburg, KS.
