Donna Sue Clemons, Kansas City, died August 6, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City. She was born Jan. 5, 1948, in Marshall, the daughter of Ted and Elsie Clemons. She spent her early childhood in Malta Bend, Miami and Marshall.
Donna graduated from Marshall High School in 1966, where she was active in sports and music. She attended the University of Central Missouri and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in 1971. She then began a 40-year career as a nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital and Menorah Medical Center, but she spent most of her career in psychiatric nursing. She was a drug and alcohol counselor for 25 years at CAP, then went to Western Missouri Mental Health Center where she was a supervisor of the Adolescent Unit, later becoming the evening administrator there, retiring in 2011. She was a passionate advocate for mental health issues.
She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and a former member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, in Kansas City.
She is survived by three brothers, Ron (Molly) of Independence, Robert (Donna) of Kansas City and their children Brian (Pam), Brad (Val), Kelley (Sean McLaughlin), Sean (Kylle) and Kristin; Randy (Trish), St. Charles, and their children Jeromy (Danine) and Michael. She is also survived by 21 great nieces and nephews and two great great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother James and three great nieces.
A visitation will be held Saturday, August 14, at 10am, followed by a memorial service at 11am, at Carson Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, with a graveside service at Malta Bend Cemetery at 2pm.
