Robert Godfrey Closson

Robert Godfrey Closson, 82, of Independence, MO, passed away on Friday, December 16th at Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 19th at South Crysler Community of Christ Church, 3100 S. Crysler Ave., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m. Entombment in Mound Grove Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church. Bob was born October 15, 1923 in Independence, MO to Claurice and Leona (DuVall) Closson. Mr. Closson was a Navy Veteran of WWII and served in the Navy Armed Guard on merchant ships. He held a BS degree from Central Missouri State University, a MS in Education from Indiana University, and extended studies from Indiana University and the University of Kansas. Mr. Closson taught thirty-seven years of which thirty-five were in Kansas City Schools. The last thirty were at Van Horn High School as a teacher of World History. He retired in 1985. He was an Elder in the Community of Christ and a member of South Chrysler Church. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marjorie (Thompson) Closson; daughter Mary Beth Closson, two granddaughters, Dr. Malia May and Marjorie May; a niece Terri DeRouse, all of Independence; one brother Warren D. Closson, Sabetha, KS; two sisters Barbara Carder of Kansas City, MO and Janet Culbertson, Odessa, MO; and several much loved nieces and nephews.
