Lila Belle (Miller) Clyde, 91, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, October 1, 2010 at North Kansas City Hospital. Mrs. Clyde was born December 4, 1918 in Kansas City, KS the daughter of James and Hazel Miller. She spent her formative years in the Norris Community, Henry County, Missouri. After graduation in 1936 she moved to Iowa where she had several jobs. In 1938 she met and married Benton W. Clyde. They ran a truck stop in Wilton Junction, IA until 1954 when they moved their family to Independence, MO. Lila held several jobs in the restaurant business, which was one reason she was such a great cook. In 1962 she went to school to become a beautician working at places like Adlers in Kansas City, Mary Alice’s Beauty Shop and Walkers Beauty Shop, both in the Northeast area of Kansas City. After her retirement in 1971 she enjoyed cooking, fishing, raising hybrid iris, crocheting, sewing and her family. Lila was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Chilhowee, MO and was a founding member of the International Firefighters Association Local 781 Auxiliary. Lila was preceded in death by her husband Benton; her parents; five sisters; and one grandson. Survivors include her daughters Pam Wishon of the home and Pat Evans of Independence; grandsons Shawn Wishon and fiancé Nicole Clevenger, and Larry and Gale Fitzgerald, all of Independence; great grandsons Brian Cooper of Grain Valley, Frank and Leslie Cooper of Atlanta, GA, Jacob and Margie Wade of Warrensburg, MO; great-great-grandsons Dayton Cooper, Dakota and Frank II Cooper; and great-great-granddaughter Delaney Cooper; sister Mary Ruth Kirby of Independence; and a host of family and friends. Services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 5 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence; burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-8:30 PM Monday evening at the Chapel.
