Earney Everett Coatney, 88 of Independence passed away Sat. Aug 12, 2006 at St. Mary�s Manor. Services will be 10:00 am Wed. Aug 16, 2006 at the Speaks Buckner Chapel, 300 Adams St., Buckner, MO. Burial in Buckner Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 - 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Chapel. Contributions are suggested to St. Mary�s Manor or Hospice. Mr. Coatney was born on Sep. 21, 1917 to William and Hercie (Crownover) Coatney in Coatney Springs, MO and had lived in Elkton, MO and Kansas City, MO before moving to Independence in 1947. He had been a Checker with Butler Manufacturing from 1945 until his retirement in 1979. He had previously worked with the WPA, the CCC Camp and North American Aviation. Earney was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed old cars, especially his 1929 Model A Ford Roadster Pickup, playing county music on the guitar and fiddle or any other string instrument. He was a previous member of the Model A Ford Club, the Sheet metal Workers Union and Hopewell Baptist Church. Earney was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mildred Coatney in 2004 and three sons, Jimmy D. Coatney in 1981, Earney L. Coatney in 2003 and an infant son in 1941. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Patsy I and Robert Hollingsworth of Blue Springs, MO and Jackie L. and Billy Roy Cox, Jr. of Odessa, MO. Two brothers James A. Coatney of Grain Valley, MO and John V. Coatney of Santa Clara, CA. A sister, Evelyn A. Edmission of Independence, MO and thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and a great great grandson.
