Sherrill Ann Cochran (Beil)

June 28, 1934 — October 8, 2021

Sherrill Ann (Beil) Cochran, 87 of Independence, MO passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at Bishop Spencer Place in Kansas City, MO. Cremation is planned and a celebration of life service will take place on a future date.
Sherry was born June 28, 1934 in Clinton, IA to Clarence Milton Beil and Doris Hildegard (Wulf) Beil. She attended Graceland University and University of Central Missouri.
She was married to Thomas D. Cochran on June 11, 1955 in Clinton, IA. Sherry had worked as a key-punch operator at Hallmark Cards in 1950’s and then was a stay-at-home mom 1960-80’s and later a stock clerk at Cargo largo in the 1990’s.
She was a lifelong member of Community of Christ Church and was active in various ways including youth and women’s group activities over the years. She loved, and often reflected fondly on her time as a staff member of senior high youth camp Spectacular in the 1970’s. Volunteering was an important part of her life and she spent many years as a recovery room volunteer at Independence Regional Hospital serving patients who had just come out of life saving surgeries. Sherry was an active member of the Independence Young Matrons Club in the 1970’s and particularly enjoyed being a part of their theater productions which introduced young people to the arts in her community. She also cherished her time as a picture lady at John W. Luff Elementary where she volunteered sharing many great works of art with the kids over the years when Liz and Tom were students at the school. Entertaining family and friends were where she was all- star. Over the years she put on fabulous and fun get togethers where all were welcome. Her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter will greatly miss her tradition of hosting “Sunday Night Super.” A weekly extravaganza she made happen every Sunday for 33 years that created a lifetime of memories for all involved.
She and attorney husband Tom were very involved in Missouri Bar / American Bar Association governance and made friends all over the state and country. With those friends from the legal community, they traveled to meetings all around the world, including a garden party at Buckingham Palace where they met Queen Elizabeth.
Sherry is survived by: her children Liz Harris (Keith) of Independence, MO and Tom Cochran (Jane) of Blue Springs, MO; Grandchildren / Great Grandchild; Ellie Cochran (Alysabeth) and Great Granddaughter Harper Cochran of Blue Springs, MO, Tyler Harris of Independence, MO, Nate Cochran (Taryn) of Kansas City, MO and Zach Harris (Brooke) of Independence, MO; a brother, Gary Beil (Nell) of Minneapolis, MN; a sister-in-law Leslie Cochran of Blue Springs, MO and lots of wonderful nieces and nephews spread all over the US.
