Virginia Lee Cockrell (Carey)

Virginia Lee Carey Cockrell, 92, Independence, Missouri, passed away on December 22, 2018 at Addington Place Memory Care Unit, Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She graduated from East High School in 1945 and worked in the business office at Butler Manufacturing Co. She was preceded in death by her parents, Timothy and Besse Carey; sister, Bettye Yates; twin brother, Vernon Carey; and husband, Lee A. Cockrell, Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Janet Cockrell (Ron) and Carol Cockrell (Judy); two sons, Tim Cockrell (Cathy) and Ron Cockrell (Bernie); four grandsons, Michael Zeigler (Anne), Jordan Zeigler, Mark Cockrell and Jason Cockrell (Anna); and three great-grandchildren, Rachel Cockrell, Ruth Cockrell, and Clara Zeigler. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2019 followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. at Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church, 6429 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of America Chapter - Alzheimer’s Association or Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church.
