Virgil Dean Coffin, 97 of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022 at his residence. The family will greet friends from 1-2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052, where they will hold a small service. A Military Honor Service will follow at 2:30pm at the graveside at Woodlawn Cemetery. Dean was born March 11, 1925 in Amoret, MO to Raymond and Thelma Coffin. He was married on September 6, 1944 for 74 years to June Faye Kimzey. Dean had served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and the US Air Force active reserves for 20 years until retirement. They had lived in Independence, MO since 1947 to present and was employed a total of 40 years at the Kansas City, MO Post Office. He retired in 1980 as Manager of Mail Distribution for Kansas City and surrounding areas. His wife June, infant son Virgil Leroy and his parents preceded him in death.. He is survived by; a daughter, Linda Ludwig and husband Dr. Mark Ludwig; a grandson, Michael and his wife Maria, their children, Tristan and Lyanna and granddaughter, Lacey Wathen and husband Charles and their children, Olivia, Annabelle and Eleanor; a granddaughter Marilee Phillips and her husband Jamie and their children, Emily, Hannah, Kade and Kaegan. He is also survived by a sister, Donna Sutherland and a brother, Larry and his wife Kay.
