Roy Eugene “Gene” Coffman, 93, Grain Valley, MO passed away Nov. 22, 2013. Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, Mo 64055; interment at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Monday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Village Hospice, 400 N.W. Murray Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081 or VFW Post #21, 16701 E. 40 Hwy., Independence, MO 64055.
Gene was born June 5, 1920 in Woodbine, IA. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II. After the war he served at a military hospital in Galesburg, IL and then as a guard at the military prison in Leavenworth. He was a heavy equipment operator at the RLDS Farms near Atherton, MO for twenty-six years and retired in 1985. He was a member of the RLDS church where he held the office of Priest and sang in the choir. He was a devoted father to his three sons who never missed one of their wrestling matches and helped for many years as a Boy Scout leader. Gene was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-five years Willa Belle Coffman and son Steve Coffman. He is survived by sons Galyn Coffman and wife Denise, Independence, MO; Darwin Coffman and wife Jeannette, Grain Valley, MO; daughter-in-law Trudy Coffman, Galesburg, IL; grandchildren Amber Myers and husband Chad, Hopedale, IL; Hilary McNeil and husband Zach, Olathe, KS; Jason Coffman and wife Amber, Independence, MO; Keri Coffman, Blue Springs, MO; Joe Coffman and wife Angie, Odessa, MO; Jennifer Jung and husband Josh, Independence, MO; sister Lois Seeley and husband Pat, Perry, IA; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews
