Don Cogburn, 69, of Independence, MO was called home Wednesday August 11, 2004, after a long battle with cancer. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Saturday August 14, 2004 at Lobb Cemetery in Independence. Don was born in Leflore Oklahoma on July 10, 1935 to Dewey and Susie Caroline (Lemons) Cogburn. He was the owner and operator of Empire Iron & Metal for over 30 years before his retirement in 1995. More recently he had been a part-time driver for Kansas City Auto Auction. Don was also a member of Carpenters Union Local 61. He was a faithful member of Full Gospel Assembly in Independence. Don is preceded in death by his parents, sister Hazel Naylor, and brother Palmer Cogburn. His beloved survivors include, wife Alice Cogburn, son Don Cogburn, daughters Lawanna Jones and husband Paul, Caroline Cogburn, Kathy Cogburn, Janice Kovac and husband Chris grandchildren, Deanna Lomas and husband Danny, Tyler Kovac, Donnie Jones, John Jones, Joe Cogburn, great grandchildren, Dominica Lomas, and Noah Wallace. He also leaves brothers Denver Cogburn, Terry Cogburn, sister, Dian Grubbs, and a very large extended family including in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many loved friends. Dad, you have found that peace at the end of the day, you will never be far from our hearts.
