Colleen Mary Wyss

October 11, 1930 — April 10, 2025

Colleen Mary Wyss, 94, passed away on April 10, 2025. Colleen was born on October 11, 1930 in Chamois, Missouri to William and Augusta (Nolte) Kaullen.

Colleen married Kenneth Wyss on May 28,1950. They celebrated their love for 64 years before Kenneth passed away. They both had a passion for dancing every Friday or Saturday night after they retired. They enjoyed traveling across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe and they enjoyed countless cruises together. They loved spending time at their second home at the Lake of the Ozarks for over 30 years. They were famous for their many fish fry's, dinners and happy hours that they shared with friends and family.

Colleen had a strong work ethic and started working when she was 13 years old at the neighborhood grocery store. She worked for 30 years at Consolidated Freightways in Kansas City, Missouri as the receptionist.

Colleen was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence for over 50 years. She also loved a variety of hobbies. She loved quilting, sewing and needlework. During her later years she renewed her love for embroidery. She completed over 100 embroidered tea towels that she shared with her friends and family. She was still embroidering in her sunlit chair the week of her passing.

She poured her heart into everything she did but especially in the kitchen. She loved to cook, bake and entertain her family and friends. She loved to bake for her fellow residents at her condominium complex and nearly every day was in the kitchen making cookies, cakes or pies to share. She cherished her weekly card games with her group of friends and looked forward to the storytelling and laughter. She kept up with her friends from all over with her many phone chats and adored her condo friends dropping by to talk with her about the latest goings on.

Colleen was deeply dedicated to her family. She took great pride in the achievements of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her two children called her every day to report the family happenings. She cherished those phone calls and looked forward to receiving them.

Colleen lived a life filled with things she loved deeply—family, friends, food and fun.

She is preceded in death by parents, her husband, Kenneth and her brother, Wade Kaullen. She is survived by her son, Mickey Wyss and his wife Susie; daughter Roxanne Wyss-Bateman and her husband Robert Bateman; 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and brother, Jerry Kaullen. The family suggests contributions to Harvesters, a food bank that she supported because of her love for cooking and knowing the importance of dinner with family.
