Dennis G. Collins, 87, of Independence, MO passed away at his home on July 5, 2018. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Rosary will be prayed at 6 pm. Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday at the funeral home. Dennis will be laid to rest with his wife Martha (Smith) Collins. Dennis was born on December 22, 1930 in Fort Dodge, Iowa of 8 children born to James and Mary (Suer) Collins. Dennis was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Rockhurst College. Dennis was employed with KCP&L for over 40 years in the marketing department, retiring in 1994. In his spare time Dennis enjoyed golf, gardening, and world travel. He was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Ararat Shrine, American Legion Post 21, Elks Lodge #25, and the Order of Eagles #385. Survivors include; son Jerry Collins and his wife Brenda; son Kevin Collins; brothers Patrick Collins and Richard Collins; sister Mary Schultz; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a large extended family and many friends. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, wife Martha (Smith) Collins, brothers Jim Collins, Bill Collins, Mickey Collins, and Edward Collins. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Children’s Hospital Fund c/o Ararat Shrine.
