N. Glynn Coltharp, 78, of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday, August 30, 2004. Glynn was born on June 17, 1926 in Wingo Kentucky to Ila (griffin) Coltharp. and Ed Coltharp. He was married to Linda (Harris) Coltharp of Mayfield, Kentucky on December 20, 1946. Glynn had served in the military prior to his marriage from 1944 to 1946. His tour of duty took him to the Philippine Islands and Japan and he was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Mess Sergeant. Glynn joined the Reorganized
Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1947 and eagerly accepted church appointed in 1956 for the RLDS Church. During his thirty-two years of service, he was ordained to the office of priest, elder, seventy, high priest and an evangelist. He dedicated his life to ministering to the Saints in many northern and southern states and was also assigned to Arizona. During his last years of appointment, he was assigned to the Santa Fe Stake, Central Missouri Stake, and the Far West Stake. While he was serving in the Santa Fe Stake, Glynn went to Monrovia, Liberia and established a school, two congregations and baptized many new converts to the RLDS Church. He retired from church appointment in 1988, which allowed him time to spend with family and friends. He continued to serve in various roles at East 39th Street Congregation of the Community of Christ Church until his death. His greatest love was serving the Church and spreading its message to the Saints. Glynn cultivated many friendships throughout his lifetime but those relationships with the brothers and sisters of the Church were his most treasured. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Coltharp; two daughters, Barbara Brandt, Largo Florida, Betty Colyer (Bill) Coral Springs, Florida 1 son, Norm Coltharp, (Deborah) Blue Springs, Mo., 3 grandchildren, Brad Colyer, Sheyanna Coltharp and Shayla Coltharp; 1 great grandson, Joseph Colthrap; one brother, Fredric Coltharp Sedalia, Kentucky.
Services will be at the East 39th Street Congregation on Friday, September 3, 2004 with visitation from 6-7:00 p.m. and memorial service will to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Community of Christ Temple Endowment fund or Crossroads Hospice of Kansas City, Mo. 8540 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, MO 64138.
