Izabella Elaine “Izzy” Colvin, six years old, passed away on March 23, 2020, at Children’s Mercy Hospital after a brave battle with cancer.
Izzy was born on December 14, 2013, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Jason Colvin and Tyler Camerlynck. From the very beginning, her parents and family knew that she would make a big impact on this world. She lost her ability to see when she was just a few months old, but that didn’t stop her, or even slow her down! She began learning with First Steps and then with CCVI, ultimately entering kindergarten at William Southern Elementary. She thrived at school – her teachers and her paraeducator would help her read by teaching her Braille. At home, she loved listening to music and showing off her dance skills. She and her dad spent a lot of quality time enjoying TV shows and movies together – their favorites were “Last Man Standing,” “Mrs. Doubtfire” “Forrest Gump,” and any Christmas movie. Izzy was a big fan of eating macaroni bites from Old Chicago, Mexican food from Palomino’s, or having a sip of her mom’s caramel frappe before school. She grew up in the Maywood Baptist Church, and her day was always brightened when Brother Bob Spradling or Pastor Jake Taylor would visit her at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Although on this earth for only six short years, she made friends out of strangers, and gave inspiration and motivation to so many. She was strong in character, a fighter through life’s adversities, with a wisdom beyond her years. Her beautiful smile and confident, sassy personality will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her mom, Tyler Camerlynck, her dad, Jason Colvin, her maternal grandparents, Matthew Camerlynck and Michelle Camerlynck (Phillip Hanes); her paternal grandparents, James “Jim” and Scheryl Colvin; maternal great-grandparents, Phyllis Camerlynck and Eugina Gunn (Michael); aunt & uncles, Courtney Camerlynck, Matthew Camerlynck, Todd Colvin and Brett Colvin; cousins, Preston Colvin, Chanciene Colvin, Journey Smalley, and Jace-Anthony Smalley; and godparents, Brian Burch and Heather Myles. Izzy is also survived by her “bubby,” an Australian Cattle dog named Cubby, whom she considered her brother, best friend, and partner in crime.
She was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandfathers, Maurice Camerlynck and Gary Leeper; and her paternal great-grandparents, John and Gladys Coffel and Julius and Ruth Colvin.
A celebration of her life will be held at Maywood Baptist Church at a later date. She will be laid to rest next to her family in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In her honor, contributions are suggested to CCVI (Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired).
