Bill Compton, 81, of Raytown, MO passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at his home. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055. A service will be held at 10am on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the chapel. Interment will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Bill was born on March 24, 1937 in Lindsay, OK to Walter William and Mildred (Rouse) Compton. After completing high school, he joined the United States Armed Forces. While stationed in Nebraska he met the love of his life, Laurene Jones. They married and ended up in the Kansas City area. Bill served 4 years in the United States Navy then served 17 years in the Air Force. He worked at the Federal Building in Kansas City and retired from there as Maintenance Supervisor. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing yardwork. Bill was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He will be remembered by his daughters Teresa Moore and husband Michael of Kansas City, MO, Rebecca Pelletier and husband Bernard of Raytown, MO, Mary Compton of Raytown, MO; his son Mike Compton and wife Amanda of Raytown, MO; brother Joe Compton of Foster, OK; sisters-in-law Emma McFerrin of Kansas City, MO and Agnes Jones of Auburn, NE; grandchildren Jimmy Ellsworth (Becky), Patti Raether (Michael), Kory Miller (Ashley), and Laura Dittmer (Jon), Jason Pelletier (Heather), Eva Watson (Sean); great-grandchildren Claire, Katelyn, Colton, Stella, Paul, Addison, Hadley, Erin, Catie, and Grace; plus several other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife Laurene, son Gene, his parents, a sister Jesse, and a brother Eli.
