Charles W. Conyers, Sr.

Charles W. "Bill� Conyers, 76, of Independence, MO passed away on Tuesday, November 2nd at Carmel Hills Living Center. Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, November 6th at First Baptist Church of Independence. Visitation will be 6-8:00 pm Friday, November 5th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Independence or to the MO Baptist Children�s Home. Bill was born May 6, 1928 in Eldon, MO to Rev. Ray H. and Nellie M. (Bunch) Conyers. Bill attended Southwest Baptist University, graduated from Southwest MO State University in Springfield with a BS in Education and then went on to receive his Master�s degree from the University of MO in Columbia. He was a three year veteran of the Coast Guard. Mr. Conyers served as an Adjunct Professor of Education through CMSU at the Residence Center in Independence. He retired from the Independence School District as an Administrator from Thomas Hart Benton Elementary School. Bill was an ordained Deacon. He and his wife were involved in training and education of fellow Christians in several Baptist churches. Mr. Conyers was also very active in the community and was an Honorary Life Member of the Rotary, received the Paul Harris Fellowship, member of the Retired School Administrators of MO, Independence Public School Retired Teachers - Support Staff, past President of the Auxiliary at the Medical Center of Independence as well as a volunteer at the hospital, and was on the Advisory Board for the Boys and Girls Club. Mr. Conyers is survived by his wife of 57 years Mary E. (Whitehill) of the home; sons and daughters-in-law Charles "Chuck� and Martha Conyers of Independence, MO, Reverend Mark and Debbie Conyers of Brookfield, MO; daughter Carol J. Conyers of Tupelo, MS; grandchildren Paul, Dana, Seth and Joel Conyers; sister and brother-in-law Marie C. and Sam McKay of Birmingham, AL; aunt Mabel Henry of El Dorado Springs, MO.
