Electa Cook, 88, of Independence, MO passed away March 21, 2018 in her home surrounded by family. Electa was born May 28, 1929 in Boston, MA to Albert and Electa Ruth Willey. She was known as the matriarch of her family, and will be fondly remembered as “Gigi” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She graduated from Wheaton College with a degree in Physical Therapy. In November of 1989, she retired from Independence Regional Hospital. She played an active role in the following organizations: Parents Without Partners, Meals on Wheels, Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, Genealogy Branch of Library; was an active member of the Palmer Center and was a member of First United Methodist of Independence. Electa was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Patricia (Willey) Hinds. She is survived by her three children, Carolyn “Lyn” Adams (Richard Kent), Barbara Johnson, Thomas W. Cook (Marilyn); grandchildren, Nathan (Michele), Lindsey, Caitlyn (Joel), Cory, Madeline, Daniel (Megan) and Lauren; great grandchildren, Adrianne, June, Callum, Jillian, Milo, Jaxson, Nathan, Aveny, and Gabriel who is expected April of 2018. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, 400 W. Maple Ave., Independence, MO.
