Leona Louise Cook, 93, Independence, Mo. died May 8, 2005. Services will be 10 am, Wed., May 11, 2005 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; interment at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Independence, Mo. or Shirkey�s Nursing & Rehab Center, 804 Wollard Blvd., Richmond, Mo. 64085. Leona was born Oct. 2, 1911 in Levasy, Mo. and was a graduate of Missouri Valley College and Kansas City University. She taught school in Levasy, Archie, Smithville, Lexington and rural Independence. For many years she was very involved and served as the organist at Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Levasy, and also at Calvary Presbyterian Church. She also taught piano and organ. She was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the WAVES in WW II from 1943 - 1944. Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond B. Cook in 1965, and brothers Dr. Walter G. Stoenner and Dr. Henry O. Stoenner, both of Richmond, Mo. She is survived by daughter Ann Harris, Stewart, Fl; son Raymond M. Cook and wife Camille, Granbury, Tx; son Richard D. Cook and wife Beverly, Blue Springs, Mo; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
