Richard's wife and love of his life, Carol Stoneberger Cook preceded him in passing from this life to heaven in 2018. He leaves behind his children; Lynda S Cook, David Cook (former daughter in law, Cynthia McNichols) and Richard A (Rick), Cook, Jr (former daughter-in-law, Nancy Shapley Cook). Grandchildren are the crown of the aged; and the glory of children is their fathers. Proverbs 17:6 HSV
He consistently loved and encouraged his 6 grandchildren and their spouses; Kristen Cook, PhD (Mike Rust, PhD), Brent Cook (Heidi Willhauck Cook, PhD) and Kelsey Cook Brown (Michael Brown). Christopher Cook, Derek Cook and Courtney Cook-Barr (Dylan Barr). And he was blessed with five great grandchildren, Alice, Lewis, Lola, Truman and Emery! Dad's committed and faithful love of his family was consistent and never ending. Richard (Dick) was the middle child of five children born to his parents, Harry D. and Hazel M. Cook of Tulsa, OK. His family moved to Springfield, MO where he developed his love for tennis with a new friend and classmate of his elementary school (who was the daughter of a professor at Drury University). They frequently played tennis on the campus of Drury. Later the family moved to Kansas City where Dick attended and graduated from Northeast High School in 1945. Afterwards Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in active duty the final year of WWII. After the war he obtained a degree in economics at the University of Kansas City now the University of Missouri in Kansas City. In 1951 he bagan a forty years career at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. LCAAP is the single largest producer of small arms ammunition for the United States Armed Forces. Richard finished his tenure as the manager of Quality Assurance where he led the Quality Assurance Organization. Richard was a committed Christian, church member and deacon at Sycamore Hills Baptist and Noland Rd., Baptist for more than 55 years. He truly enjoyed teaching his Sunday School class and the interactions and friendships that resulted. Richard is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He shared his faith and love with many people for many years by his life, his words and deeds. He is much loved and already missed by family and friends. May he rest in peace with our Lord until the last trumpet sounds and the dead in Christ will rise to "meet the Lord in the air". [1] 50 Now I say this, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Behold, I am telling you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 1 Corinthians 15:50-52 NASB
