Burnie B. Cooper, 83, of Lee�s Summit, MO, died July 4, 2006, with Mary, his loving wife of 52 years by his side. His life will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2006 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Full Military Honors at Forest Hill Cemetery will acknowledge the sacrifice he made and the service he gave to his country. Burnie was born November 20, 1922 in Kansas City, MO. When he was 17 years old he joined the Army Rangers, served in Unit Company C 3rd Ranger Battalion 160, and fought for his country in the African and European Theatres during the second World War. At the age of 22 he was captured in Cersterno, Italy, and was interned for fifteen months in 7A and 2B German prisoner-of-war camps. He escaped from the camps on several occasions and was liberated in 1945. He also served in the Army Rangers in the Korean Theatre. For his valor and service he received two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Victory Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, the Presidential Citation/Oak Leaf Cluster, the American and Mediterranean Theatre Medal with Battle Stars, the Korean Service Medal/Battle Star, the Army of Occupation Japan Medal, and the United Nation Service Medal. He was a respected businessman and owner of Suburban Heating & Air Conditioning, Grandview, MO, for 45 years until his retirement in 1990. Burnie will be missed by the many people who loved him: his wife, Mary; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Linda Booth, Lee�s Summit, MO; his grandsons and their wives Burnie and Anna Booth, Westwood, KS, Benjamin and Shauna Booth, Prairie Village, KS, Bart and Gretchen Booth, Lee�s Summit, MO; two great-grandsons Brock and Corbin Booth; his dear sister Pat Rubin, Las Vegas, NV; his nephew Bill Wade, Canyon City, NV; nieces Susan Wade, Belize, Margaret Clark, Katherine Floyd, Blue Springs, MO and Helen Hunter Gardner, KS.
