David Preston Cooper, 62 of Independence, MO, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022. David was born on March 22, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri, to William and Wanda (Dickens) Cooper. He graduated from Truman High School in the class of 1978. David was a great son, brother, nephew, and uncle who loved hosting family Monday night with his niece and nephews. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease the kids. He liked fishing and boating and traveled with his uncles and aunt. After the death of his uncle Bob, David cared for his aunt Mae. He also lived with and cared for his mother, Wanda. He lived in Independence for the most of his life and was the head custodian for Blackburn Elementary School for over 25 dedicated years before retiring from the Independence School District. Baptized at the age of 13 years old, David was a member of the Church of Christ. He was very strong and he hand-built furniture, and was very talented with his hands, and could fix almost anything. David was a good person who would always help others when he could. He enjoyed cooking and will always be remembered for making the best chocolate chip cookies and peanut brittle that will be missed by many.
David is survived by his mother, Wanda June Cooper; older brother, Ralph S. Cooper (Dee); sisters, Rebecca J. Cooper, and Billie Diane Trout (Darrell); nephews, Steven P. Cooper (Morgan) and Gregory W.J. Trout; and niece, Sarah E. Adrian (Cory). He was preceded in death by his father, William Edward Cooper and aunt, Addie Mae Dickens.
