At peace and surrounded by his family, Jack left this world for a better one on June 16, 2007. He was 66 years old. His 18-month battle with leukemia is finally over.
Left behind to mourn, but grateful to have had him in her life, is his wife of 46 years, LaNita Kroesen Cooper. His children are: Elizabeth Anne Cates and husband Mark, Holden MO; J.R. Cooper and wife Kathy, Independence, MO; Jarrett Cooper and wife Meghan, O’Fallon, MO; grandchildren: Coy Cates and wife Ann; Jeb Cates, all of Holden, MO; Amber Canada and fiancée Josh Fox; Joshua Cooper; Annabelle Cooper, all of Independence, MO; Celia and Ian Cooper, O’Fallon, MO; great-grandson Jedadiah Cooper, Independence, MO; brother Carl Cooper, Grain Valley, MO; sisters May Ann LeClair; Gail Guffy and husband Jim, all of Ellsberry, MO.
Jack was the youngest of four children born to Anna Violet (Race) and Gailen Cooper of Atherton, MO. He graduated from Fort Osage in 1959. He loved to tell stories of his childhood adventures with his friends along the Missouri River bottoms. He had the innate ability to build or fix anything with his hands. Being very analytical and precise served him well in his occupation as a Mold Maker for Dollins Tool Company in Independence, where he was in management and mentored many young men in their future job paths.
Jack’s talents were shared serving with Troop #233 as an Assistant Scout Master. He was an Honorary Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Jack was proud that his sons, son-in-law and two oldest grandsons are Eagle Scouts with Mic-O-Say ranks ranging from Firebuilder to Sachem.
Being at home with his family is what made Jack happiest and most content. He was loyal, kind, honest and lived a life of commitment to this family. Jack’s family is thankful for the care given to him at the Kansas City Cancer Center, the special support of his brother-in-law George Kroesen, and everyone who supported him with their loving thoughts and prayers.
A memorial visitation will be held 6-8 pm, Friday, June 22, 2007 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. The family requests that you consider giving blood or send a contribution to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society to pass on the blessings that Jack received to other families in need.
