Robert John Cooper, 84, passed away Jan. 28, 2016. Family will receive friends from 1-2pm, with service at 2:00pm, both on Monday, February 1, 2016, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. He will be laid to rest in New Salem Cemetery.
Robert was born on June 24, 1931, in Knob Creek, Arkansas, to Garland and Grace (Knowles) Cooper, as the fifth of eight children. He married Versie Blankenship in 1950, and served in the Army after their marriage. Upon honorable discharge, he worked in heavy construction and home building. He and Versie later owned and operated Clem’s Restaurant of Independence for nearly 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.
He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of nearly 65 years, Versie, in 2014; his parents, and siblings, Lowell Cooper, Leon Cooper, Kenneth Cooper, Marie Blankenship, and Melva Clem. He is survived by his sisters, Ina Cooper and Jean Mayer; and many nieces and nephews.
