Versie (Blankenship) Cooper of Independence, MO, passed away on October 6, 2014. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014, from 9-10:00am, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. A service will begin at 10:00am on Thursday at the chapel. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery.
Versie was born on October 30, 1932, to Rance and Sylbia Blankenship. Later in life, she met and married Robert J. Cooper. Together they managed Clem’s Drive-In in Independence for nearly 30 years, and they even received a visit from broadcaster Walt Bodine. Versie enjoyed quilts and crocheting, keeping a clean home, and traveling with Robert.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Viva Musick; and brothers Huey and Gulley Blankenship. She is survived by her love of nearly 65 years, Robert; seven sisters, Sadie Musick, Frances Pearson, Tenny Overstreet, Mary Mercer, Sharon Mountjoy, Linda Taylor, and Robbie Sims; brother, Donald Blankenship; and many nieces and nephews.
