Elwood Dempsey Cornett, 84 of Sugar Creek, MO passed away Thu. Jun. 24, 2004 at the home of his daughter, Carol. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 3 - 5:00 pm, Sunday at the George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home. An inurnment will be held later in the fall at the Lake of the Ozarks. Contributions are suggested to the Sidebottom Historical Cemetery, 203 Jefferson Place, Versailles, MO 65084. Mr. Cornett was born on Jul 9, 1919 to George and Cora Cornett in Dick Jones Holler, Gravois Mills, MO and had lived in the KC area most of his life. He had been an Air Filter Installer with Air Filter Sales and Service of Kansas City retiring in 1975. Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, three sisters, his first son, Donald Elwood Cornett and two grandchildren, Angela and Tom. He is survived by six children, Charles Cornett and wife Joan of Arkansas City, KS; Lynda Mackie of Bartlesville, OK; Carol Bullard of Sugar Creek, MO; Russ Cornett and wife, Tammy of Independence, MO; Sherry Carey of Independence, MO and Michelle Cornett of Independence, MO. Ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Elwood is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Anna Mae Cornett of Independence, MO and by several stepchildren and step grandchildren of Leona Cole. Elwood loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He has gone fishing and will not be forgotten. "The fish can rest a little easier now!�
