Opal Countryman, 89 of Independence, passed away Wed. Nov 28, 2007 at North Kansas City Hospital. Services will be 1:00 pm Mon. Dec. 3, 2007 at the Carson- Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Indep. MO. Burial in Md. Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 - 8:30pm, Sunday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association. Mrs. Countryman was born on Aug 20, 1918 to Elishua & Lizzie (Rink) Horn in Scammon, KS. Opal was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and teaching children. She was a Cub Scout den mother for seventeen years and a girl‚s leader in the Skylark and Orioles girl‚s program for ten years. She was a very active member of the Reorganization Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She would put sermons on Cassette tapes and send them to Germany, Jerusalem, Hong Kong and the United States. She also would put scriptures on tape. She helped in Vacation Church School for many summers and taught Sunday school for over 65 years. Opal most recently attended the Farview Restoration Branch Church. Opal is survived by her husband of over 66 years, Charles Henry Countryman of Independence; three children, David E. Countryman and wife Shirley of Appleton City, MO, Charlette Kelton and husband Stephen of Cody, WY and Tom Countryman and wife Brenda of Independence, MO. Six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
