Donald M. Cowart, 54, of Independence, MO passed away February 14, 2014 after fighting a long battle with HIV/Aids. Don was born March 29, 1959 to Fred and Sue Cowart. He graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1977, and attended the University of Kansas. He retired from the U.S. Treasury Dept.-IRS. His passions were the Kansas City Chiefs, KU Jayhawks and politics. He was a lifelong member of The Democratic National Committee and served as a judge for Jackson County Board of Elections. He was proud of his Cherokee Heritage. Don was preceded in death by his partner of 25 years, Greg Dahlman; and father, Fred L. Cowart. He is survived by his mother, Sue Cowart and companion Larry Hoyer; brother, Thomas B. Cowart and wife Margaret Ann; and sister, Susan C. Cowart. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. service on Wednesday, February 19, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO.
